Things to Do in Baytown, Texas

New to the Baytown area? Looking for somewhere to go after eating at one of the best Mexican restaurants in Baytown, or Baytown events on the 4th of July while you’re in town? The team at Bayshore Chrysler Jeep Dodge knows our community as well as we know used Jeeps, and we love to share our local knowledge with you. We’ve collected a number of sites for you to visit during your stay here, or to help get you acclimated if you’re new in town – check them out right here. Any questions? Need another recommendation? Give us a shout!

Baytown Nature Center

Found near the Houston Ship Channel on a 450-acre peninsula, the Baytown Nature Center is home to hundreds of birds, lizards, fish, and other local wildlife. Walking along its banks, you can catch views of Burnet Bay, Crystal Bay, and Scott Bay, beautiful areas from which Baytown derives its name and reputation. Take a trip down, see the wonderful display of nature our city’s fringe has to offer, and learn why Baytown is known not only for the people who live here, but also the environment that came before us.

Houston Raceway

If you’re here on the right day and listen closely, you can probably hear the engines roaring across town from the Houston Raceway. If you’re into performance cars, this is your best show in Baytown. The Houston Raceway is home to several National Hot Rod Association Races each year, with a banked dirt track, seating for 40,000, and a weekly drag racing program from March through October. Whether you’ve got a front-row seat or you’re up in the stands, your heart will be racing. Even if you’re not here on a race day, it’s a site to behold for anyone with a need for speed.

Baytown Arts District

Baytown features the Downtown Arts District that’s home to a number of notable theaters and galleries, including Baytown Little Theater, Lee College Performing Arts Center, Art Gallery of Baytown, and the Baytown Public Art Program. Located near Texas Avenue, city officials and citizens worked together over the last few decades to provide visitors and residents alike with venues for both live performance and fine art, including a full-size shipping container that features a public mural, while housing a number of turtles and even a live alligator. Stop by, and see how our community has worked to showcase creative thinking and talent among our residents.

Lynchburg Ferry

The longest continuously-operating ferry in Texas is located right here in Baytown. An important piece of the puzzle in Texas’s fight for independence in 1836, the Lynchburg Ferry follows the same route as it did nearly 200 years ago. Climb aboard today, and take a trip over to the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, and the Battleship Texas State Historic site – both important places in Baytown’s history in their own rights.

Yepez Vineyard

Who’d think great wine could be made in a Texas climate? Turns out, Yepez Vineyard has the art down pat. A self-described “adobe-style winery,” Yepez is committed to spirits that reflect the culture and scenery of the southwest. Family-owned and operated, Yepez keeps regular tasting room hours, and also hosts a variety of public functions for new transplants and visitors to enjoy.
